Mångata
What is Mångata? It is a Swedish term that means "moon way". It refers to the phenomenon of moonlight reflecting on the surface of the water to create a long silver path. This line of light stretches across the surface of the water to the moon. Hercule-Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac, in his utopian travelogue "A Voyage to the Moon", described many ways of getting to this cosmic body. Using his knowledge of physics, mathematicz and astronomy, he reached this friend of dreamers and lonely souls countless times in his brilliant baroque yet timeless mind. And how many times has he longed to give up his scientific and atheistic nature and walk like Jesus on the surface of the night, following that silver thread that glitters and twists among the waves? And meet the moonmen? What do they look like? Are they pale and tall, with eyes as big and sad as deer, or are they little green men or slender giants with bluish skin that glitters like the moon itself? To me, they look like Tom, Oliver, Christian, and the young jazzman who played bass at the Café Museum in Passau last fall. They're as beautiful as Lea with Princess Nefertiti's eyes. The moonman is a dreamer. Not for nothing has the moon become a symbol of dreaming. He has a mysterious aura about him like all his children. I know them. Even though the first footprint in its dust was made by a human foot, the moon has lost none of its beauty and appeal for us. We still look to it as a beacon to guide us through sleepless nights.
